Wondering thoughts

We all make decisions base on our past experience. Our memory and emotions give us the motivation to decide, to act out a certain decision. Sometimes good. Sometimes bad.

Past experiences are what shaped us. Psychologist name this as "learning". The learning process is as simple as it is complex. Conditioning is another term used in the world of psychology.

A certain stimulus can cause us to react in a certain way. This is the initial stages of "Classical Conditioning" called "Acquisition". It is associating a certain neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit in a conditioned response.

There is also "Generalization". Where people learnt to generalize ideas of situations. For example, if so-&-so did that-&- that it means this -&- this. A generalize idea can be dangerous, it is when you stereotype and everyone is like this when they behave in that way.

However, there is also "Discrimination" where people learn to distinguish different stimulus. Can you imagine a world that cannot discriminate the differences? How drastic things will become?

Hopefully, "Extinction" will come when the certain stereotyped stimulus is not paired with the unconditioned stimulus of "fear" (or anything). Yet "Spontaneous Recovery" do take place and it takes a shorter time to learn to response to the stimulus.

My point is. There is a flip side of a coin. Maybe what you saw and experience have a lot to do with your past. Not the present. Maybe things are not as you thought they are...
