What is a Vow?

I was sitting in front of my computer, thinking what should I read on today? And I decided to google "inner vow".

What is a Vow?

A vow is something said verbally or in the mind by an act of our agency that programs the body and mind from that point on. It is a directive sent through the heart and mind to the body. Though the conscious mind has long forgotten, the inner being does not. It is a determination set by the mind and heart from that time on. They are lodged in the heart.

An Inner Vow is when you make a vow within yourself or even verbally thet you are no going to be a certain way or do a certain thing.

Inner vows act as a protection mechanism to keep our spirits from being wounded and hurt. It is in the form of a wall around the heart. Most of those that have feelings of rejection have inner vows. They develop "hearts of stone". Inner vows may not become manifest immediately in behavior, but eventually may lead to breakdowns or explosions. They act as orders to mind and body. While they keep us from being hurt, they at the same time keep us from being loved by God and others. We develop a “cold love” where we show the outward expressions of love, but do not experience it in our heart or emotions.

Examples are:
-I will never let anyone hurt me again
-I will never carry a boy child
-I will never try that again
-I will never be rejected again
-I will never trust a man (or woman again)

The problem with such vows is that they remain a permanent part of our psyche and affect our future actions. When we try and act in a way that opposes our ancient inner vow we find ourselves having a huge inner conflict that we do not understand. Say someone made a solemn inner vow that they would never marry when they were a young girl and their parents divorced. Later on when she is 28 she may have such strong wedding jitters that she may break off the engagement.

When you find yourself very reluctant to do something ask yourself if you ever made a promise to yourself that stands in the way of what you are trying to do. Then write on a piece of paper "I hereby release myself from my sacred vow that I would never get married.." or whatever the vow was. You made the vow and you can release yourself from it. Say it three times then burn the piece of paper in a little ceremony. You will find a sense of inner release and normality inside yourself.

I guess I am very guilty of such vows. For example, I said "I will never be a christian in my entire life" and "I will never pierce my ear, piercing are for sissys." and "Choir? No way, I will never join choir"

Should I get a car?

It was just the beginning of the month that the price of a barrel of oil has passed the US$122 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7385061.stm) mark for the first time. I was reading the papers last week and it was US$127. Today, it hit US$133 (http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/commodities/energyprices.html).

Analysts at Goldman Sachs predicted oil could reach between $150 to $200 over the next six months to two years in a report at the beginning of the month. Looking at the alarming rate oil is going. Who knows how soon will oil hit the $150 mark.

Household and consumers around the world are already feeling the pinch of higher energy prices, although Singapore consumers have been partly cushioned by a strong local currency. However, higher oil prices have seeped into electricity bills, transport costs and operating costs for businesses in Singapore.

With commodities inflating, oil price rising, will Singapore consumer feel the pinch? Will we have to tighten our belts? The next question every Singaporean will be asking, will there be a salary revision?

With flour price increasing, rice inflating, oil price rising. Petrol at $2.186 (prices taken from Shell).

Should I get a car?

Good Times & Bad

This is my favourite picture for this season. I think it is the nicest picture I have taken so far. Because I look good in it. HA!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many thoughts are going through my head right now. We all go through good times and bad times. Good times are the rewards of joy for putting up with and overcoming the bad times. Bad times are the opportunities to create more good hours.
"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." ~ Romans 5 : 3-5
That is right. I am feeling really lousy today. It is one of the days again. A state of dysphoria probably.
Why am I in this mood swings? Because my needs are not met, and it is near impossible to learn to be contented with unmet needs. True enough, Paul once said:
"Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to get along happily whether I have much or little. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little." ~ Philippians 4 : 11-12 (NLT)
Yet how many can really live in perfect contentment? Some people say: "Blessed are those who aims for nothing, for they shall not be disappointed."
Yet disappointment is just a way we feel when we don't get what we want or need.
"Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again – rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you. " ~ Philippians 4 : 4-9 (NLT)
It becomes a struggle with the flesh.
"Sing, O barren, You who have not borne! Break forth into singing, and cry aloud, You who have not labored with child! For more are the children of the desolate Than the children of the married woman," says the Lord. " ~ Isaiah 54 : 1
Random Thoughts
Someone told me that my blog is generally very depressing...
I shall say "Well thank you..."
I guess.... so is Ecclesiastes....
[You know, I used to just say the darnest thing and don't really care what people say or think about me.... However, when I grow in experience, I realised some truth, and you know some truth are not so... rather some people do not like the truth.... What Jack Nicholson (by the way, one of my favorite actors) will say, "you want the truth?! You can't handle the truth!" Anyway, I realised people can get misunderstanding very easily even when you have not the least intention to.... So for the statement I say above.... I will repeat again... (I have finally learnt to be political...!!! Hoooray... All thanks to my training with highly sensitive people in my life... Thank you....)]
I guess.... so is Ecclesiastes very depressing.... (But we know the ending...) Right.. there you go...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Recall about the past few weeks sermons.... Intrigues me:

I'd been sick for quite a long time... In fact the whole of last year.... A friend came with good intentions and ask me...

Friend 1: Gary, how come you are always sick?

Me: Not enough sleep I suppose...

Friend 1: Oh... Have you been praying?

Me: Why?

Friend: Oh... If you have been praying... If your life with God is right you should be tired... You know hor... I also very tired... But after I pray.... I feel so much better... I think you should pray then you won't be sick...

Me: I will keep that in mind...

What good is a blog for?

Communication, the art of passing information in any cognitive entity. Communication is a kind of social interaction where at least two interacting agents share a common set of signs and a common set of semiotic rules. In a simplistic model, information is sent from a sender or encoder to a receiver or decoder. In a slightly more complex form feedback links a sender to a receiver. This requires a symbolic activity, sometimes via a language.

Language, it is a system of signals, such as voice sounds, intonations or pitch, gestures or written symbols which passes information. Language learning is normal in human childhood. Most human languages use patterns of sound or gesture for symbols which enable communication with others around them.

Human communication is a very complex system. It consists of both verbal and non-verbal ques.

Sad to say, many only learnt the language but not the Art of communication. I am one of them who is not very gifted in the area of communication. Why do I say so? Well... Something to think about: If everyone is talking at the same time who is listening? There can only be one person talking at the same time. Most of the time, I take the listening role. Somehow I've ended up as "Uncle Agony" most of the time. Maybe I am a good listener. Maybe I don’t have a choice. I do have a lot of things to say. Sadly I don’t have audience. Most people around me want to make their point. So when? When is it my turn to talk? Hmm... I do have opportunity to talk. However these chances come rare. Short-lived too. I usually got break up, interrupted, cut in, and you get the point. I don’t get to talk....

They say that Man has 10,000 words a day and woman has 20,000. If I am able to cash my unused words... I may jolly well be the richest man on earth...

I don't understand... Why I never got to complete my sentences? Why most people are so quick to talk and slow to listen? Is my words not worth their time? Or are their opinion more important?

I guess this is why a blog is invented... For people to voice their views without interruption...

Exhausted

Even felt that your head weighs a ton? Breathing gets heavier. Heartbeat went faster. Vision gets blurred. Head spinning. Starting to have illusion. Feel like throwing up. Brain feel so congested it felt like exploding. Heart sank down it felt as if it is going to stop.

Does it sound like taking drugs? I don't know I have not taken drug before. But if it does, who needs drugs which cost so much? Just get a hectic lifestyle like me. Get so busy in life continuously for 3 years. You can find permanent "high".

Maybe I have not been asking God. So...

Dear God this is a list of what I need:

I need a house fully paid for (a condo? at least a 4-5 room HDB flat)
I need a car fully paid for (Nissan March? Of cos BMW is my favourite)
I need a promising career
I need a promotion
I need creative ideas
I need favors
I need helps
I need partnerships
I need my own businesses
I need rest
I need a life
I need a break
I need recreation
I need a holiday
I need Club Med
I need my school fees paid off
I need wisdom
I need God's power
I need strength

Most importantly, I need God....

Trench Buddies & Comrades-in-Arms

Recently, I was introduced to the term "Trench Buddies" recently. Interesting term I would say. It is not a common to to me, maybe to others, but not to me. Rarely use it.

Anyway, I did a Google search on "Trench Buddies". I got lots of blogs hits returns, mostly Christians' blogs that says you got to avoid "Tench Buddies" as your life-partner. I guess those are most probably from the same church writing about the same sermon in their Cell Group.

I also got hits about how husbands and wives relate themselves as "Trench Buddies". Well, I am not surprised. Married couples do go through thick and thin together. That is why they are married isn't it? And that is a never-ending process...

Now, here is a group of people advising not to be romantically involved with "Trench Buddies" and another group that describe their relationship as Comrades-in-Arms. Interesting phenomenon isn't it?

Ok... Something to ponder about... Do you rather live with someone for the rest of your life knowing that you two can stick through thick and thin? Or do you rather find a romantic life partner that is not tried and tested?

I suppose different individuals yields different results....

Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus

Why is the union between a man and a woman important? What is the big fuss about getting married? When is the right time to get married? Who is the right one to marry or be married to? How do you find the "one"?

If you are a woman, are these questions familiar to you? If you are a man and you have yet a girlfriend, my tip for you is to get the answers of the above questions, and be prepared.

Strange thing about us homosapiens is that there will be a time when one has the urge, and on the verge to merge. A inbuilt mechanism that the Creator have installed? Or a deep calling in the soul that needs to be completed?

If it is true that the woman is a part of man taken out from man, then doesn't every man needs a woman to be whole? And doesn't it make woman have the urge to make a man complete?

Yet I know of many women wanting to find a man that is already completed. Ask why single males can't compare to married or attached ones. Well, to me it seems pretty obvious.

It is not because I am a guy that is why I am defending the male species. Rather I speaks the truth.

Indeed "Men are from Mars and Women Venus", both species have long forgotten that they are different. And this difference has cause much unnecessary displeasure.

If only both Man and Woman remember that they are different, and began to understand the differences and how each species think, many marriages would be saved, many broken hearts would be prevented. And many would be long attached.

Yet many individuals are too caught up in themselves to see the Truth. No wonder they say that "The Truth will set you free".

What is the Most Important Thing in Life?

Ever wonder "What is the Most Important Thing in Life?"?

I was interested to know what are important to people in general and I did a Google Search on "Most Important Thing to a man".

Guess what? Most of the search results is "God", follow by "Sex" and "Health", and "Tv", and "Sports", not in any order.

Let's put religion aside.. For a little while... I am just wondering why no one considers a good career as the most important thing in life.

Well, for one, you spend most of your time working, and it is what pays you at the end of the month that feeds you and your family. How come no one considers that important?
For me, I guess what is important to me is a good career, a career that pays you well, that explores your potential and capability, a career that brings you satisfaction, and life long fulfilment. I am sure everyone wants that. However many people had said this to me, "That is just the ideal, it will never happen in real life... Work is work... You started out loving your job... But you end up dreading it..."

Why then is the world full of such depressing negativity mindset about work?

Maybe most people have not found their given-gifts and talents. Maybe most people just follow the crowd. Remember in the early 90's when the IT industry is booming, everyone rushed to do IT, then the bubble-tea business is doing well, everyone starts bubbling, again the government promotes biotechnology, everyone rushes to the next big thing. It is just like someone strike 4-D buying the numbers from where they thought they saw, on a Luo-han fish and the whole nation, even the surrounding countries have a booming industry selling Luo-han. I called that a Luo-han effect.

It is sad to know that people in the society have stop "thinking". They began to adopt a "Whatever that works for him will work for me" mindset. They began to become a mindless creature breathing just to find satisfaction in a "borrowed" success.

I think they missed the whole point.

Most people I know have no ambition. They just want a normal life. Decent job that pays a few thousands, comfortable, get married and have kids.

Is that what life is all about? I recon more. I want a life full of excitement. I want to live each day to the fullest. I want to maximise every resources I have. Basically I want more than what life itself can offer.

Greed? No... I am expecting more. I am expecting a purpose driven life. I want my barns to be filled with overflowing abundance. I do not just want a mediocre life. I want a life larger than itself...

Well... That is me... I always have my Dreams and Ambitions ever since I know my ABC's....

Yet there are people who just wants things to be predictable... How boring...
